ALDER-
Appearance
ALDER in ALDER-GÁ was interpreted by Jensma as Oude. Other translators did not translate it. Study of the word in other contexts suggests that it rather means of all (Dutch: aller-):
ALD — Oldest of all, Dutch: alleroudste
- VSA ALDER ALDESTA SKRIFTUN
- THET ALDER.ALDESTA JEFTHA OVER.ALDESTA
BEST — Best of all, Dutch: allerbeste
- THA ALDERBESTE FRYASBERN
- SIN ALDERBESTA STJÛRAR
- SKIATA SA.R A ALDERBESTA MÉI
DRIST — Most daring/rebellious of all, Dutch: allerdrieste (rare, archaic)
- THA ALDER.DRISTA MÀNNISKA (used twice in ch. T2a.)
GRÁT — Greatest (or largest) of all, Dutch: allergrootste
- THI FON TEXLAND IS THA ALDERGRÁTESTE
- ALDERGRÁTESTE THÉRA KÉNINGAR
- THA ALDERGRÁTESTE Á.DISKA
MINEST — Least (most minor) of all, Dutch: allerminste
- FÁRET ALDERMINESTA LIK FÉR.HÉMANDE BISKÁWADE
Other
- ALDERLANGNE NÉI HJARA BIGRIP — entirely (more lit.: eternally) under their control (see Koebler: alderlang)
Derived from ALD (old), probably:
- HI WAS VRESTE ALDERMÀN — alderman: lit.: elderman or man of all? Elsewhere ÔLDERMÔN was used twice. (Related to ULDERMANKES?)
- VSA ÉNFALDA ALDERA — our modest elders
