13e. Primal Teachings 1
[097/28] The Primal Teachings that were written on the wall of the burg tower were not copied into the Book of the Adela-Followers. I wonder why they left them out?[1] But, as this copy is mine, [098] I will add them here for the sake of my kinsmen.
Primal Teachings
All God-loving children of Frya, hail![2] Through them, bliss shall come to Earth. Learn and proclaim to the nations:
- ‘Wralda’ is the most-ancient or primordial, for he created all things.[3]
- Wralda is the ‘all-in-all’, for he is eternal and infinite.
- Wralda is present everywhere, yet nowhere can he be seen. Therefore, his being is called ‘spirit’. All that we can see of him are the creations that come and go again through his life, because from Wralda all things proceed and to him they return.
- Out of Wralda comes both the beginning and the end. All things merge into him.
- Wralda is the only almighty being, because all other power is lent from him and returns to him.
- From Wralda, all forces are derived, and all forces return to him again. Therefore, he alone is the creative being, and nothing is created outside of him.
- Wralda set eternal principles, or ‘eawa’, into all that was created,[4] and there are no good commandments lest they [099] be founded upon these principles.
But, although all is in Wralda, the wickedness of mankind is not of him. Wickedness comes from sloth, heedlessness, and stupidity. Therefore, it can harm the people, but never Wralda. Wralda is wisdom, and the eawa that he established are the books from which we can learn. No wisdom can be found or gathered outside of them.
- People may see many things, but Wralda sees all things.
- People may learn many things, but Wralda knows all things.
- People may unlock many things, but to Wralda, all is laid open.
- People are male and female,[5] but Wralda creates both.
- People love and hate, but Wralda is only righteous.
- Therefore, Wralda alone is God and there are no gods outside of him.[6]
With the circling of the Yule, all creation alters and changes. But only God is unchanging. Since Wralda is God, he cannot change, and since he endures, only he is ‘being’ and everything else ‘seeming’.

- ↑ The neutral ‘thet’ (that) is translated as ‘he’ here. Further in this text, the masculine HIM, SIN and HI are used in the source when referring to Wralda.
- ↑ ‘eternal principles or ‘eawa’ into all that was created’ — compare concept ‘natural law’.
- ↑ ‘male and female’ (MÀNNALIK ÀND BERLIK) — the precise meaning of BERLIK is uncertain and translated through context; possibly lit.: ‘child-bearing’, from verb BÉRA, meaning: to carry or to give birth.
- ↑ ‘God... gods’ (GOD, GODA) — elsewhere in the manuscript, these words are used as adjectives, meaning: ‘good’, ‘perfect’, ‘whole’. Notice that, in the original script, the word ‘God’ is perfectly symmetrical, as the G is a mirrored D.

[p.135 cont.] The old legend which is written on the outside wall of the city tower is not written in "The Book of Adela's Followers." Why this has been neglected I do not know; but this book is my own, so I will put it in out of regard to my relations.
The Oldest Doctrine.
Hail to all the well-intentioned children of Frya! [p.137] Through them the earth shall become holy. Learn and announce to the people Wr-alda is the ancient of ancients, for he created all things. Wr-alda is all in all, for he is eternal and everlasting. Wr-alda is omnipresent but invisible, and therefore is called a spirit. All that we can see of him are the created beings who come to life through him and go again, because from Wr-alda all things proceed and return to him. Wr-alda is the beginning and the end. Wr-alda is the only almighty being, because from him all other strength comes, and returns to him. Therefore he alone is the creator, and nothing exists without him. Wr-alda established eternal principles, upon which the laws of creation were founded, and no good laws could stand on any other foundation. But although everything is derived from Wr-alda, the wickedness of men does not come from him. Wickedness comes from heaviness, carelessness, and stupidity; therefore they may well be injurious to men, but never to Wr-alda. Wr-alda is wisdom, and the laws that he has made are the books from which we learn, nor is any wisdom to be found or gathered but in them. Men may see a great deal, but Wr-alda sees everything. Men can learn a great deal, but Wr-alda knows everything. Men can discover much, but to Wr-alda everything is open. Mankind are male and female, but Wr-alda created both. Mankind love and hate, but Wr-alda alone is just. Therefore Wr-alda is good, and there is no good without him. In the progress of time all creation alters and changes, but goodness alone is unalterable; and since Wr-alda is good, he cannot [p.139] change. As he endures, he alone exists; everything else is show.
