ALDER- in ALDER.GÁ was interpreted by Jensma as 'Oude'. Other translators did not translate it. Study of the word in other contexts suggests that it rather means 'of all' (Dutch: 'aller'):

ALD — Oldest of all, Dutch: 'alleroudste'

  • VSA ALDER ALDESTA SKRIFTUN
  • THET ALDER.ALDESTA JEFTHA OVER.ALDESTA

BEST — Best of all, Dutch: 'allerbeste'

  • THA ALDERBESTE FRYASBERN
  • SIN ALDERBESTA STJÛRAR
  • SKIATA SA.R A ALDERBESTA MÉI

DRIST — Most daring/rebellious of all, Dutch: 'allerdrieste' (rare, archaic)

  • THA ALDER.DRISTA MÀNNISKA (used twice in ch. 15b)

GRÁT — Greatest (or largest) of all, Dutch: 'allergrootste'

  • THI FON TEXLAND IS THA ALDERGRÁTESTE
  • ALDERGRÁTESTE THÉRA KÉNINGAR
  • THA ALDERGRÁTESTE Á.DISKA

MINEST — Least (most minor) of all, Dutch: 'allerminste'

  • FÁRET ALDERMINESTA LIK FÉR.HÉMANDE BISKÁWADE

Other

  • ALDERLANGNE NÉI HJARA BIGRIP — entirely (more lit.: eternally) under their control (see Koebler: 'alderlang')

  • HI WAS VRESTE ALDERMÀNalderman: lit.: 'elderman' or 'man of all'? Elsewhere ÔLDERMÔN was used twice. (Related to ULDERMANKES?)
