  1. ‘watch-by-night’ (SKOLT BY NACHT) — Dutch ‘schout bij nacht’ is described as “commander whose duty it was to see that the ships of a fleet sailed in the prescribed order at night”. Since 17th century is was used for ‘rear admiral’.
