Although the obvious cognate is ''chruch'', it was translated by Ott as ''temple'', because the former has become mostly associated to Christianity.

The word is only used in a negative context in Oera Linda. If the Fryas had anything like temples themselves (for example ''[[ANFANG|Tanfana]]'', referred to by Tacitus), they were not referred to in any of the texts.
